Marie Cashat

Growing up in Brooklyn, N.Y., the 4th child of simple Italian immigrants who were gobsmacked by the intricacies of the light switch and doorbell, she was destined to become a traditional wife and mother...in that order!...

Due to events totally within her control, she escaped her foretold destiny by running away to join the circus...also known as the theatre according to her parents.

Finding her way to Catholic University of America, she purchased a BA degree In theatre arts and went on to become an unknown and impoverished actress.

The need for food and shelter drove her to attain another useless but highly prized degree in Business Administration. After 25 years of sustained employment in several “Fortune 50” rated companies she was promoted to Director of Administrivia, and given a corner office on the 76th floor on Tower 1, WTC. Fortunately, this was before 9/11.

All through this time she maintained her connection to the theatre by attending evening classes at Irene Daily’s School of the Actor’s Company and the prestigious H.B. Studio (Herbert Berkoff and Uta Hagen).

She appeared in several off-Broadway shows, participated in WNYC radio’s annual Shakespeare Festival, and did a bunch of voice-over commercials for Alpo Dog Food.

She left New York for good in the 1980’s and headed for Albuquerque, New Mexico, N.Y.’s sister city (!) but with cactus, dust devils and Indians (feather, not dot!).

There her choral singing avocation began and flourished through numerous church and civic organizations throughout the nation, including The National Christian Choir in Washington D.C.

She just became President of our own much beloved 71 year old St. Augustine Community Chorus.
